Nagini

Hello Everyone!

I'd like to introduce you to my new best friend.

His name is Nagini.

He's pretty darn cute.  

This is how I found him.

Yep, that's right.  Nagini was originally intended to be lunch for a Burmese Python.

A rather large one at that - the picture doesn't do it justice.

I work for a Real Estate Agent who only sells foreclosed properties.  We do everything from cleaning out the properties to the closing of the sale.  This python was the lovely present left on the back porch of one the homes we recently received.

Obviously, a python hanging out in a backyard of a suburban Salt Lake neighborhood is not a good thing - but the more pressing matter was the fact that the poor little bunny was stuck in the cage with it!  So we did the only thing we could do - we took an early lunch break and ran over to the house to rescue Nagini and hoped we weren't too late.

The poor thing was terrified.  He was hunched back in his corner and not moving a muscle.  

We removed the logs covering the tank and slowly lowered a stick into it - just to make sure the python would ignore something protruding into her living space.  Luckily she just looked at us rather lazily.

While I reached into the tank to rescue the bunny, Brianna stood guard with the stick in the middle of the tank (to smack the snake with if she struck at me of course).  We'll pretend that a tiny stick would have saved me if anything bad had happened.

Moral of the story - Success!  Nagini is a happy bunny living at my parent's house.  He was skinny as could be when we rescued him (I'm pretty sure he'd been in the cage for awhile), but he has now put on some weight and looks much healthier.

The python was later rescued by some of our recent buyers (who bought a home specifically for the large shed attached that they intended to turn into a snake lair).  The vet reported that she is a female Burmese Python and had a respiratory infection.  She is on the mend and will live to eat many more poor little bunnies.  But at least Nagini is safe!
